Construction Design and Management (CDM) Services

Principal Designers help to ensure that construction projects deliver good value and are safe to build, use and maintain by providing advice and facilitating in-depth consideration of the health and safety implications of the design. We provide advice to clients, assisting them with their obligations under the 2015 CDM Regulations.

We have developed robust systems of documents, that dovetail effectively into the existing procurement procedures, without adding extra bureaucracy or excessive paperwork. We take a proactive approach to the CDM regulations, ensuring all parties are complying with their obligations and holding detailed risk sessions with the design team.


Principal Designers will:

  • Plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase. In doing so they will take account of relevant information (such as an existing health and safety file) that might affect design work carried out both before and after the construction phase has started
  • Help and advise the client in bringing together Pre-Construction Information, and provide the information designers and contractors need to carry out their duties
  • Work with other designers on the project to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone affected by the work and, where that is not possible, take steps to reduce or control those risks
  • Ensure that everyone involved in the pre-construction phase communicates and cooperates, coordinating their work wherever required
  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor, keeping them informed of any risks that need to be controlled during the construction phase

If the client or another party are acting as Principal Designer, we provide support to the Client in completing their CDM duties by:

  • Assisting the client in identifying, obtaining, and collating the Pre-Construction Information
  • Provide Pre-Construction Information to Designers, the Principal Contractor, and Contractors
  • Submit the F10 Notification(s) as necessary
  • Ensure that Designers comply with their duties and co-operate with each other
  • Liaise with the Principal Contractor for the duration of the appointment
  • Prepare the Health and Safety file on or before completion
