Quantity Surveyor Leeds:
Find the right one!

Saunders Quantity Surveyors have completed many projects in Leeds, Bradford and throughout Yorkshire. We’re currently working on a very exciting project for Butternut Box in the Doncaster area, which we hope to be able to write about soon. At a mere hop, skip and jump down the  A65 (anyone who’s tried to hop skip and jump down the A65 knows we might not be being 100% serious here!), despite being based in Kendal, we are well-placed to consult on construction projects in Leeds and in fact the whole of Yorkshire. You can read about three of our Care Home projects in Leeds and Bradford below.

We hope this guide helps you and if you’d like to have a free, no obligation consultation with one of our Quantity Surveyors for your Leeds construction project, contact us today.

Choosing a Quantity Surveyor in Leeds:
An Expert’s Guide

Home of carbonated water (invented in the 1760s in Leeds – perfect pub quiz fodder!), pivotal to the wool trade and an iconic force in the industrial revolution, Leeds is now the biggest legal and financial centre in the UK, and we are proud to be part of its continuing growth. As the city with the second biggest population in the UK outside of London, there is an ever-increasing demand for accommodation, be it student, care home, or affordable housing for families.

Quantity Surveyors are therefore in high demand in Leeds, so how do you ensure you engage the right expert for your project? We believe that being a good Quantity Surveyor is more than the 50 years’ experience and skill we’ve accumulated, it’s about performing the job with a bit of heart, and an absolute commitment to exceeding the expectations of our clients.

Here’s what we suggest you look for when sourcing a Quantity Surveyor in Leeds, Yorkshire, or anywhere else for that matter:

Experience & Drive

What makes a good Quantity Surveyor in Leeds, or anywhere else for that matter? Firstly, one with a passion for their trade and the city itself. Ask about your Quantity Surveyors skills, certifications and experience in the particular sector and evaluate whether they feel like they really understand what you as an individual are aiming to achieve. A Quantity Surveyor should be energetic and committed, and give you the feeling they will do their absolute best by you and your business.

We are proud to provide Quantity Surveying expertise for construction projects in Leeds, and help this amazing city not only thrive, but innovate. Look for a Quantity Surveyor that knows Leeds, and understands and shares your construction project vision.

Local knowledge

Given the explosion of remote working,  ease of travel and increasing digitisation of the construction industry, it could well be that you are carrying out a construction project but aren’t based in the city. Having some eyes and ears on the ground with local knowledge, contacts and preferred suppliers is a way in which you can ensure your project runs to the very best standards, even without you being based there.

Understanding and planning for any location-specific cost implications are all much easier with a Quantity Surveyor with experience of projects in Leeds and Yorkshire. Ask for case studies that prove local knowledge.

Industry experience

Whilst our experience spans many industries, we have especially deep, industry-specific experience and knowledge in the several key construction verticals. Our expertise in the Leeds and Yorkshire area pertains to large-scale residential care homes.

Finding a Quantity Surveyor in Leeds with experience in your type of construction project will save you both time and money. See below for an overview of some recent projects we’ve carried out in Leeds.

Quantity Surveying Project#1:
Care Home, Guiseley, Leeds

Value – Circa £9m

Saunders have provided Independent Monitoring services for the construction of a new 72 bedroom Care Home facility in Guiseley. The project is being undertaken by a well known Care developer, who have several projects currently throughout the UK.  The site was previously used as a Car Showroom.

Our Independent Monitoring role involved closely monitoring the developer cost, programme and statutory requirements and ensuring the funder was fully updated on progress and issues throughout the build.

Quantity Surveying Project#2:
Care Home, Bingley, Bradford

Value – Circa £9m

Saunders have provided Independent Monitoring Services (IMS) for the construction of a new 72 bedroom Care Home facility in Bingley.  The development started in 2023 and is due for completion at the end of 2024.  The project is being undertaken by a well known Care Home provider and developer, who have a number of projects currently throughout the UK.

The site was previously utilised as a hospital until 2020, but was demolished and the site left undeveloped. Construction will be according to BREEAM standards (BREEAM is the world’s leading science-based suite of validation and certification systems for a sustainable built environment), as the developer and funder are keen to maximise ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance Principles) and reduce carbon production during construction and ongoing use of the facility. We love this project for its sustainability and feel passionate about supporting and growing sustainable construction wherever we can.

Our Independent Monitoring role involved closely monitoring the developer cost, programme and statutory requirements and ensuring the funder was fully updated on progress and issues throughout the build.

Whilst the site was previously undeveloped, ground remediation and contamination has been encountered but removed and managed well by the team and funder.  This construction project is also being managed according to BREEAM standards.

Quantity Surveyor Kristian Chippendale:
Why we enjoy construction projects in Leeds.

What’s your favourite building in Leeds Kristian?

“The Corn Exchange! Dating all the way back to 1863, it’s an unusual building that is both beautiful and functional. I remember back in the late 1990s it was full of really cool, independent clothing shops and had a very unique feel about it. Every weekend it was full of University students and young professionals all keen to get their hands on something a little bit different. In fact I think this is what I love about Leeds as a whole really; not only are people from Yorkshire some of the nicest you’ll ever meet, but Leeds has always been a bit cutting edge and has so much personality.”

Which Leeds building would you love to get your hands on and why?

“Elland Road! Plans are underway to take this iconic football stadium from a capacity  just shy of 38,000 seats, to 55,000. The stadium is looking a bit dated and in need of some construction tlc. To be honest, getting my hands on any football stadium would be a dream come true!”

Why do you enjoy Quantity Surveyor Projects in Leeds and Yorkshire?

“Quantity Surveyor projects in Yorkshire are always a pleasure due to the brilliant working relationships built on site. The natural openness and no-nonsense approach of the locals means construction teams and projects that are focused on getting the job done, but having a laugh along the way. Yorkshire is also naturally stunning and in Leeds in particular you experience the contrast of old and new wherever you go; from the breathtaking Kirkstall Abbey dating back to 1152, to the iconic and futuristic Victoria Gate shopping centre, Leeds is a must-see for anyone who loves architecture!”
